To rehab a neglected property is a labor of love--it is far easier to build new than to redo. Nothing is straight. Floors are crooked. There are surprises behind the walls and unexpected problems. You have to carefully dismantle versus just bulldoze a structure down. The challenge is preserving the old look with new construction materials. What you get is the charm of yesteryear not found in new construction: Old beams can't just be created. The genuine pride associated with preserving a little bit of history is very satisfying.
